Pendentive of Osorkon II Displaying the God Osiris

by gold on Apr.06, 2010, under Uses

pendentive-of-osorkon-ii-displaying-the-god-osirisThis pendant is made of gold inlaid with lapis lazuli and red glass. It shows the god Osiris sitting on a pillar between his wife Isis on the right, and son, falcon-headed Horus, on the left.

Osiris wears the headdress of the ruler, the atef crown with two upright feathers, as a symbol of the Pharoah himself.

The trinity of Osiris, Isis and Horus became more dominant in later Egyptian mythology, conflating a number of earlier myths (for instance, Isis took over many aspects of Hathor). —
